Draw

Pixels that land exactly where you meant.

A true pixel pencil, clean shapes, mirrored halves and your palette on every tool, on an infinite canvas with room for every sprite in your game.

Clean lines on the first pass. Less cleanup after every stroke, so your time goes into the look, not the jaggies.

Doubled corner pixels disappear while you draw 1-px lines and curves.

Feel the difference in one stroke. Draw once and the same stroke lands on two canvases, with Pixel-perfect off and on. It's the engine the editor runs.

Colour inside the lines, without masking. Fill flats under line art, shade only where pixels already are, and keep two colours under your fingers.

Fill flats on their own layer

The bucket can read every visible layer and paint on another, so line art and colour stay apart.

Shade inside the silhouette

Lock alpha recolours existing pixels only. Sweep a big brush and nothing spills.

Translucent strokes that stay even

Set the tool's opacity and overlapping passes in one stroke don't pile up into dark blotches.

Two colours, two buttons

Right-click paints your background colour, so the second colour is always one click away.

Always know what your next click will paint. Every instrument in the tray carries your current colour, and the one you pick rises into your hand.

Move it, flip it, scale it, and it stays crisp. Select with a marquee, lasso, magic wand or colour range, then nudge, flip, rotate or scale with handles. The actions for your selection appear in the bar right above the toolbar.

  • Add, subtract and intersect selections
  • Grow, shrink or border a selection with Modify
  • Copy merged grabs exactly what you see
  • Paste PNGs straight from other apps

Keep line art, colour and shadows apart. Nest layers in groups, drag to reorganise, and shade with blend modes like Multiply and Screen that you can still change later.

Restyle a whole animation without redrawing it. Preview the result on the current frame, choose the current cel or every frame, then apply it as one undo step.

Outline

The classic sprite outline, inside or outside, on the whole animation.

Replace color

Turn the blue team red across every frame.

New

Shade, dither and turn without leaving the grid. Gradients dither between your two colours, the Shading ink walks pixels along your ramp, and RotSprite turns art to any angle with its outline intact.

Dither in one drag

Drag the Gradient tool across an area to fill it from your colour to your second, dithered so every pixel is one of the two.

Shade along your ramp

Pick a run of palette colours, brush with the Shading ink, and each pixel steps one shade along that ramp. Highlights never leave the palette.

Rotate without jaggies

Turn floating pixels to any angle around a pivot. RotSprite keeps one-pixel lines whole between the quarter turns.

New

Build levels from tiles you draw once. A tilemap layer paints whole tiles from its tileset. Pick grass, stone or a wall in the Tileset panel and drag to lay it cell by cell.

  • Switch between Draw tiles and Draw pixels without changing layers
  • Draw pixels on the map and new tiles join the tileset, repeats reuse the one you have

Keep your whole cast consistent. Hero, enemies, items and tiles sit as artboards on one infinite canvas, so you compare them at the same zoom.

Try a variant safely

Duplicate an artboard with ⌘D and experiment on the copy.

Resize the whole animation at once

Canvas size and Sprite size change every frame and layer in one undoable step.

Your hands stay on the canvas. Hold Space to pan, ⌥ to pick a colour, ⌘ to move pixels, and type any action into ⌘K. Choose the Classic keymap if that's what your fingers know.
